The Ezra Company Negotiates Expansion and Relocation for IDSA in Herndon

January 16, 2012 (Washington, D.C.) – The world’s largest and oldest member-driven organization that promotes the practice and education of industrial design soon will move its national office to a larger location in Northern Virginia.

The Washington, D.C.-based Ezra Company, one of the leading commercial real estate firms in the nation that exclusively represents tenants, announces today that it has negotiated on behalf of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) in a lease of 7,260 square feet of space at 555 Grove St., a 25,000-square-foot building in Herndon owned by the Heritage Education Trust.

In this eight-year lease, The Ezra Company Senior Vice President Anthony King and Associate Kerry Colclough represented IDSA. Colclough says that the society received a number of favorable concessions, including several months of free rent, as well as a turnkey build-out of the new space.

“Anthony and Kerry worked with us to fulfill our requirements – to find more space for less rent, to improve the facilities available to the staff, and to relocate to a building that was closer to a town center,” says Clive Roux, IDSA’s CEO. “They were able to make all of these things possible for us, all within a very amicable business relationship.”

Currently, IDSA occupies 6,700 square feet at 45195 Business Court in Dulles. The relocation to Herndon, slated for early this year, represents an expansion of nearly 10 percent for IDSA, in terms of the square footage that it will take on Grove Street.

“We are extremely pleased to have completed this transaction for the Industrial Designers Society of America,” Colclough says. “We showed our client numerous options, with a focus on the Herndon and Reston submarkets. The site that IDSA ended up selecting gives this organization ample room to grow and is in a convenient location for the society’s employees. There are also numerous restaurants and retailers in the vicinity.”

IDSA, whose roots date back to 1938, has an international presence with chapters in 27 different locations, all providing opportunities for designers to meet one another, learn and get inspired. The society organizes the annual International Design Excellence Award competition, and it also hosts the International Design Conference as well as five regional conferences each year.
